A photographic guide to Santorini
Santorini changes character from village to village: broad caldera panoramas, compressed layers of white architecture, blue domes, bell towers and narrow passages.
Read the island as a sequence
The archive is most useful when the villages are viewed together. Oia provides recognisable architecture and evening light; Fira adds the visual density of the island’s capital; Firostefani and Imerovigli open longer views across the caldera.
Moving between those scales makes a photo story more specific than a collection of interchangeable blue-domed views.
Daylight is only half the archive
Several photographs were made after sunset: Fira illuminated above the caldera, moonlit water and the fading colour around Oia. They show how white surfaces stop being a background and begin to hold artificial light and deep blue shadow.
These images can support editorial themes that a midday postcard cannot: evening travel, island settlements, volcanic geography and the transition from public space to night.
